Altar Servers

Pin Purpose

In a symbol of our common priesthood, servers are given the responsibility for carrying the cross and candles/torches in procession and assisting the presider at liturgy. The actions of these individuals highlight the ceremony and ritual that are so much a part of the liturgy that we celebrate. We welcome and encourage all youth to serve as altar servers (5th grade and up)

Pin Skills

Poise and purpose are the attributes required for this ministry. Servers must be comfortable moving in front of people in a way that dignifies the presence of the objects they handle and gesture. They are truly present to people in the brief moment of faith that is shared. They bear the witness of the importance and reverence for the objects that are used in the liturgy.

Pin Benefit

Altar servers become familiar with the ritual and deepen their own appreciation for the liturgy by wearing the alb, carrying the cross and candles, holding the book of prayers setting the Lord's table and assisting the presider during the liturgy.

Pin Time Commitment

We ask Servers to come to masses prepared to serve even if they are not scheduled. Servers are scheduled to serve approximately once a month, depending on Mass preference and are asked to serve at funerals and weddings.

Server meetings are held periodically. Please contact the Liturgy office for the next date training is scheduled.
