In search of peace: Ministry for the grieving beings comfort, camaraderie

Once a funeral is over and all the relatives and friends arenʼt calling as often, having support of people who understand what you are going through is so helpful, Anyone can attend no matter the loss or faith.

Some people attend for only a few meetings and others have been coming for several years; there is no time limit to grieving. The fluid membership of the Bereavement Ministry means people can come for a one-meeting boost or lean on the group's support for years.

Juanita Alvarez joined the group a few years ago after the loss of three siblings in as many months. She said the participantsʼ support means more because they relate to what sheʼs feeling.

“There will always be a holiday, a song on the radio, a picture, a birthday, an anniversary that can really bring you down,” she said. “But thereʼs at least one person that has felt the way you are feeling and you can relate by talking about it.”
