Lectors

Pin Purpose

The cycle of readings used in liturgy directs us on a journey of faith. Lectors are our storytellers on this journey, proclaiming the scripture in a way that reminds us God's word is alive here and now. By leading the General Intercessions, lectors remind us of our connections to both local and global communities and help us pray for those in need.

Pin Skills

Those in this ministry should possess and continue to develop good public reading skills (articulation, pacing, eye contact) and a manner of speaking that draws attention to the Word of God.

Pin Benefit

By utilizing provided preparation material, lectors gain a fuller knowledge and understanding of scripture. By proclaiming the scriptures in the liturgical assembly, lectors bring to birth the living word of God. The lectors minister the presence of God who speaks when the scriptures are proclaimed in church. Lectors help to feed the assembly from the table of the word, just as Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist help to feed the assembly from the table of the Eucharist.

Pin Time Commitment

Lectors are scheduled randomly every month, if possible with their Mass preference. However, there will be times at which Lectors will be called upon to minister outside their preferred time due to the need of the Liturgy. We ask your cooperation in this important scheduling need.

Pin Coordination

Mr. David Pailthorpe is the Lector Coordinator. His phone number can be found in the Parish Bulletin.

Pin Discernment

We accept new lectors periodically throughout the year. New lectors meet with the Lector coordinator and Liturgy Director. Responsibilities will be discussed and an opportunity to practice from the ambo will also be provided. Feedback will be given to help the new lector feel comfortable proclaiming the Word.

Please contact Mr. Pailthorpe or Fr. Ray for more information concerning this ministry and training.

At times meetings will be held to provide updates on new procedures and policies. These meetings will be advertised in the bulletin and via email.
