Music Ministry

Our Mission:
The music ministers of St. Ann 's are dedicated to the service
of our community in all masses, services, and functions by
ministering the Word of God through the gift of music.
Following the guidelines of The Vatican
Council’s Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy:
The Church earnestly desires that all the
faithful be led to that full, conscious and active participation in
liturgical celebrations called for by the very nature of the
liturgy. ... In the reform and promotion of the liturgy, this full
and active participation by all the people is the aim to be
considered before all else.
Our Vision
Our vision is to enable the full, conscious,
and active participation of the assembly at St. Ann 's by inspiring
those assembled to sing. We hope to achieve this by performing music
that connects with the congregation and assist with each member’s
relationship with God. This connection is a form of prayer, and
prayer is where true Christianity begins.
Connecting With Style
We realize that effective music ministry needs to spiritually
connect with the assembly in order for them to fully participate in
singing. We also see that different people connect with different
styles of music. Therefore, we offer two popular styles, Traditional
and Contemporary. However, we don't always separate the styles.
Occasionally, we mix up the styles in a liturgy or service as well
as assemble ensembles with a combination of both styles in a
liturgy. Our parish has a large percentage of members that enjoy the
variety.
Prayer and Music
We hope to accomplish all of our goals by having a "prayer-first"
approach to our ministry. On our music room doors are signs that
read "Pray before Play." If we are not able to know our music well
enough to pray with it, we will be unable to lead the assembly to do
the same. We also pray that we effectively minister the music to
each and every member of our congregation with hope to enrich their
worship experience.
Another church document on music states that the music minister is a
disciple first, then a minister. The St. Ann 's Music Ministry
embraces its calling when approaching every note and every chord,
being disciples of Christ first while striving to give breath to the
spiritual life within each song.
