Widowed Helping Others

WHO Ministry provides a safe environment for widows and widowers to enjoy fellowship and friendship. This is done through dinner meetings at the church and organized activities with other people who understand the adjustment of being alone after losing a spouse.

Widowed ministry offers new beginnings

Widowed Helping Others, or WHO, has been a refuge for people who have lost a spouse. They come to be with others who understand this difficult journey. It’s a ministry where no one feels like a third wheel. The group, which has a monthly dinner and enjoys casual get-togethers frequently, helps the newly widowed find a way forward.

WHO’s events are sources of fellowship and friendship, but members are true to the helping part of their ministry as well. At WHO meetings, members contribute supplies to other ministries at St. Ann’s including the food bank and My Brother’s Keeper. They also regularly volunteer to help at St. Ann’s events like the garage sale, Apple Annie craft show and others.

The highlight of the year for WHO is the Mass of Remembrance, a service to recall all the spouses who have died. It’s a touching evening of healing and reflection.

"We have made many new friends,” said WHO member, “and although my life has changed forever with my loss, WHO has offered a chance at a new beginning with the support and mutual caring of my fellow members.”
