First Communion Sacramental Preparation for Children

Whether they are just beginning or continuing sacramental preparation, we are here to walk with them and your family every step of the way. Use this guide to find the right class for your child and understand important requirements.

Which Program is Right for Your Child?

GRADES 1-3

Sacramental Preparation for the First Communion at St. Ann’s Catholic Church is a two-year journey that begins with foundational religious education, Sacramental Year 1, and leads to the beautiful celebrations of First Reconciliation and First Communion in the Sacramental Year 2.

Sacramental Year 1

Children entering 1st or 2nd grade in their elementary school that have not yet attended any formal religious education will need to begin in Sacramental Year 1 class.



Requirements:

  • Parish Registration: Families must be registered members of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Register here.
  • Class Options: In-Person and Digital/Homeschooling options are available. Register for LAUNCH classes here.
  • Attendance Policy: Students are allowed up to three unexcused absences during the school year. Make-up lessons will provided for the entire school year.

Sacramental Year 2

Children entering 2nd or 3rd grade in their elementary school that have successfully completed Sacramental Year 1 class at LAUNCH, another parish program, or at Catholic school, can register for Sacramental Year 2 class.


Requirements:

  • Parish Registration: Families must be registered members of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Register here.
  • Baptismal Certification of the child entering Sacramental Year 2 must be provided at the time of class registration.
  • Class Options: In-Person and Digital/Homeschooling options are available. Register for LAUNCH classes here.
  • Prerequisite: Successful completion of Sacramental Year 1 through LAUNCH, another parish program, or a Catholic school.
  • First Reconciliation: Students in Sacramental Year 2 will prepare for and receive the Sacrament of First Reconciliation during the fall semester of their second year of preparation.
  • Attendance Policy: Students are allowed up to three unexcused absences during the school year. Make-up lessons will provided for the entire school year.
  • Parents Workshops: Parents are required to attend six Parents Workshops or three hours of Adult Faith Formation (if they attended Parents Workshops in the previous year).

  • All documents and essential First Communion information will be provided to Sacramental Year 2 families in the Information Packet at the beginning of LAUNCH school year.



GRADES 4 AND UP


Voyage – For Baptized Children Needing First Communion


Voyage is a dynamic and engaging class that explores the basics of the Catholic faith and prepares students to receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion with understanding and reverence. Voyage is a one-year program for students in grades 4th to 12th   who have been baptized but have not yet received First Reconciliation or First Communion.


Requirements:

  • Parish Registration: Families must be registered members of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Register here.
  • Baptismal Certification of the child must be provided at the time of class registration.
  • LAUNCH class registration, please select Voyage class here.
  • Class Options: In-Person (Monday 5:30pm-7pm) and Digital/Homeschooling options are available.
  • First Reconciliation: Sacramental Year 2 students prepare and receive the Sacrament of First Reconciliation during the fall semester of the Sacramental Year 2 preparation.
  • Attendance Policy: Students are allowed up to three unexcused absences during the school year. Make up lessons must be coordinated with the teacher.
  • Parents Workshops: Parents are required to attend six Parents Workshops or three hours of Adult Faith Formation (if they attended Parents Workshops in the previous year).
  • Schedules & Resources: For LAUNCH current calendar, virtual and make-up class schedule, Parents Workshops dates and details, required forms and documents, please visit the LAUNCH website and Voyage tab.
  • All documents and essential First Communion information will be provided to Voyage families in the Information Packet at the beginning of LAUNCH school year.
  • Voyage classes are held on Mondays, 5:30pm–7:00pm (during LAUNCH).



OCIC – Order of Christian Initiation for Children


Order of Christian Initiation for Children is for children 4th grade and older who are not yet baptized and wish to enter the Catholic Church through Baptism and First Communion. Please visit: here.
