TOKENS OF LOVE: SENIORS' MINISTRY EMBRACES THE OVERLOOKED

Every couple of weeks, a group of crafty women gathers to crank out an inventory of creations that would put Santaʼs elves to shame. Members of the Seniors Aiding Seniors Ministry have been working for years to shine some light into the lives of people who often are forgotten.

“This ministry reminds me of the story of the shoemakerʼs elves,” said Pastoral Care Director Linda Walsh. “They quietly create beautiful, unique gifts and then leave them for the Pastoral Care office to bring joy and blessings to others.”

The people in this ministry look out for about 485 home- and facility-bound seniors, including elderly religious. Their outreach comes mainly in the form of crafts, cards and treats with messages that let the recipient know they are in the prayers of St. Ann parishioners.

“I believe  we bring joy and happiness to many, who for whatever reason, can no longer function independently,” said Jeanice Glennon, who founded the ministry in 1998. “We look forward to creating something from little and passing it on.”

Most of the ministryʼs crafts hinge on holidays. Earlier this month, they fired up their glue guns to put the finishing touches on candy cane door hangers, guardian angel bookmarks and other Christmas-themed crafts.
