Give Thanks
Join St. Ann with your family as we gather around the table of the Lord for Mass on Thanksgiving Day, 9:00am.
Give thanks
Give thanks to the Lord, invoke his name;
make known among the peoples his deeds! — Psalm 105
Each year, we set aside a day for giving thanks.
But, after Thanksgiving, we often go back to not giving much thought to gratitude.
Scripture tells us to give thanks to God every day of the year. Here’s how:
PRAY
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
— 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Too often, prayer becomes a list of things we need. Let it instead begin with gratitude for the many blessings we receive from God. Prayer is the foundation
of an intimate relationship with God. When we give thanks, we notice the gifts
we have received, which draw us closer to God.
WORSHIP
Therefore, we who are receiving the unshakable kingdom should have gratitude with which we should offer worship pleasing to God in reverence and awe. — Hebrews 12:28
Worship and Mass can take place any day of the week, not just on Sunday.
The word Eucharist means “thanksgiving” and each time we participate in the
Mass and receive the Eucharist, we are giving thanks to God for creating,
redeeming and sanctifying us.
SERVE
And, whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. — Colossians 3:17
Thanks and service go hand in hand when we serve the Lord by caring for others. St. Theresa of Avila said Christ has no body but ours. When we love the Lord, we naturally want to share that love by serving others in large and small ways. Giving thanks to God should be part of what we do each day.
Many blessings to you & yours
